Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai, known by local Bedouin as ‘Mount Moses’, is the Biblical mountain where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments. Rising 2285m above sea level, this craggy and monumental peak offers incredible views over the Sinai Peninsula.
There are two routes that snake up the mountain: the Camel Trail ,which is a wide, paved path that alternates between easy, steep and very steep, and is about 7km one way (2.5-3hr walking), or the Stairs, all 3750 of them.

Once on top of the mountain, you can catch your breath and watch as the surrounding peaks and desert plains are bathed in the fiery colours of sunset.

Itinerary

Mountain: The trip begins at midnight, with a 2 hour drive to St Catherine’s where we’ll meet our English-speaking Bedouin guide (guides are compulsory). We’ll then ascend the mountain by the Camel Trail, in good time for the sunrise. Afterwards, we’ll descend by the same route, or by the stairs, depending on your preference.

Monastery: The monastery opens at about 9am till 12 pm , and you’ll have time to visit the various attractions, such as the Basilica and the museum, before we depart for Dahab.
